Our 1st. Cook on the Green Mountain Davy Crockett Tailgater
Green Mountain’s Davy Crockett Review
Green Mountain Grills asked us if we would take a look at their new Davy Crockett Tailgater. I am always interested in a new wood pellet grill so I jumped right on it. I have had 2 pellet tailgaters in the past and can’t say I was very happy. They had problems in my opinion with heat control simply said. So, I wanted to look thoroughly at this one.

The Arrival
Nice Job with the Packaging the Grill Arrived in Perfect Condition
Out of the Box, I Like the Fold Up Legs
This is what is inside and where it gets interesting.
A lot of thought went into the packaging and assembly. Wrapped and secured inside are the grill grates, side shelf and the power supply.

Green Mountain’s Davy Crockett Review
This is what is inside and where it gets interesting. Check this out; this is a tailgater that is truly meant to travel. It runs on 12 volts DC. The power options come with the grill you don’t have to “Purchase” as an option. You can plug into your car, clip to a 12 volt battery or plug into 110 house current. Just as easy as I said it was. Then, there is a meat probe that plugs into a digital control that ranges from 150 degrees (66c) to 550 degrees (287c), Very Nice. Also a drip bucket along with a small bag of pellets to prime the firebox, your grates and a good sturdy side shelf. The drip pan is designed to open so you can do a direct sear on your meats. There are a lot of big pellet grills that don’t even offer this feature. The heat shield and drip pan are made of heavy gauge steel that will last for years. Last, a simple to understand operating manual. The Heat Shield and Drip Pan are Made of Heavy Gauge Steel
The Only Assembly Needed is The Smoke Stack and Handle.
Assembly is simply, 5 bolts for the smoke stack and handle. Too easy… Heavy Hinges and Stainless Steel Door
Boasting a stout stainless steel door and hinges that will give you years of trouble free grilling. I hate flimsy doors. 30 Minutes from Unpacking to Smoking
Before using your new grill as with most new grills it is suggested that you burn the grill for around an hour at 350 degrees (180c) to burn all the manufacturing oils off of it. Because this was it’s first firing and I primed the fire pot and there was a lot of smoke. This is normal, the next time you won’t see as much smoke. I say this because it is a lot of smoke and got me to smiling waiting for the fire department to come for dinner, again… (They have been here a few times because of my smokers)
Note, that the only reason for priming the firebox is that the auger is empty and the igniter may time out before enough pellets can cycle through and is nothing to worry about. Let’s Eat
I wanted to really give this little guy a good workout. After I burned it in I did two racks of ribs on it.
We had some perfectly smoked racks of ribs and smoked tomatoes for dinner; it doesn’t get any better than that.
To sum it up this is a great little Tailgater that is packed with a lot of features that a lot of the big boys don’t have. It would serve you well tailgating, RV’ing, picnicking, camping and small patios, anywhere you want to set up and grill. An added plus is that it will run off any power source doing both low and slow smoking and BBQ or hot and fast grilling.
And to make this even better it retails for a very reasonable $379.

I do not even know how I ended up here, but I thought this post was good.
I do not know who you are but certainly you are going to a famous blogger if you are not already ;
) Cheers!
Didn’t they give you the wifi to test also, they now have wifi that you can use your smart phone to control the grill, looks really good on there web site. I have this grill and love it but I got it last year before they had the wifi control, still very happy with the grill though.
I got this grill before the Wifi was out…
But may be getting one soon…
Thanks…
After comparing the Davy Crockett to Traggers tailgater version, Green Mountain is hands above traggers model ! The worst is Traggers square Feet cooking size compared to Green Mountain Davy Crockett ! !
