Saber 500SS Review
Saber sent us one of their 500SS grills. This is a big stainless steel gas grill that was delivered in my driveway by a semi truck. I have had more than a few grills sent to me and the first thing I look at now is the package, and damage from poor packing and ease of unpacking.
When you open the box right on top is a package with the manual and a blister pack with all the nuts and bolts telling you what is what. Like I said a “lot of thought here”. You see all the padding and that is the bottom shelf, just lift it out and the rest comes apart 1, 2, 3… You don’t have to lift the body out of the box because it just slips off the top. (That “Thought Thing” again)
The manual gives you a list of the tools you need and simple step by step directions on assembly. It took me about an hour to assemble. But, to be honest I was just tinkering around looking at this and that. Anyway a piece of cake…

Let’s take a close look…
These are an infrared cooking system; they get HOT before you can shut the lid. Then it shoots up to over 700 degrees in just a few minutes using 30% less gas than other grills. This a nice big cooking area that you can set for different cooking zones by temp. The square holes are viewing ports to see down into the fire box.
This is the electronic ignition and the left hand control knob. There are 3 sets of control knobs each with its own temperature gauge to monitor the 3 cooking zones you set up. Smooth and easy to use.
Note: The Saber 500 has 3 Cooking Zones that can be set the same for 1 large cooking surface or into 2 or 3 different zones when you have foods with different cooking temps.
Every grill I have ever had after time the warming rack sags. This won’t happen here with the double support bars welded in. The warming rack is porcelain coated with 2 positions for warming and roasting.
The Side Burner has a reversible grate, a flat side for pots and pans and a curved side for woks. And it is heavy porcelain coated iron. Very helpful.

Ok, let’s see if it can dance…
This is what it comes down to. My 1st cook on a Saber and there was no learning curve for this grill. It did exactly what I wanted it to do, when I wanted it to just perfectly. I set up 3 cooking zones and used the side burner for sautéed onions. We “Grilled” some New York steaks and fries, then “BBQ’ed” some pork strips. We were very pleased with the results.
I put some pork rib strips on next. They were tender and juicy.
