Smokey Espresso Barbecue Sauce, a delicious, easy and beautiful sauce to have in your kitchen It’s a great BBQ or dipping sauce. It can be served either hot or cold. It goes well with Beef, Pork and Chicken. This is one of those “Must Try” sauces!

This is our take of Aaron Franklin’s famous recipe with a few changes more to our taste like a little smoked minced garlic and smoked paprika for a “Kiss of Smoke” with a little fresh minced sweet onion and a little of some butcher’s grind black pepper.

The building blocks of most BBQ sauces are ketchup, apple cider vinegar and dark brown sugar. These together are good, but it’s easy to make them into something extra special and This Is Something Special! 

Smokey Espresso Barbecue Sauce

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Stove Top 

Ingredients: Smokey Espresso Barbecue Sauce

  • 1 ½ cups ketchup
  • ½ cup white vinegar
  • ½ cup cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup dark soy sauce (less salt)
  • ¼ cup dark brown sugar
  • ¼ cup bacon drippings
  • ¼ cup freshly brewed espresso
  • 2 Tbsp. smoked minced garlic
  • 2 Tbsp minced sweet onion
  • 1 Tbsp. Butcher’s grind black pepper
  • 1 ½ tsp. smoked paprika

Cooking Directions: Smokey Espresso Barbecue Sauce

Place ketchup, vinegar, soy sauce and brown sugar into a heavy saucepan and simmer until blended. Add the remaining ingredients in a saucepan. Slowly bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered, until thick and richly flavored, about 10 minutes or so, stirring often.

The sauce will keep in the refrigerator for several weeks.

Almost any of our recipes can be done on any kind of good BBQ.

The important thing to keep in mind is TIME & TEMPERATURE. You can even do some of them in the oven or crock pot, but, then you lose all the flavors you get from cooking outdoors. But sometimes it does rain.

Remember that a recipe is simply an outline; it is not written in stone. Don’t be afraid to make changes to suit your taste. Take it and run with it….
