Bacon Bourbon BBQ Sauce Recipe, a delicious, easy and beautiful sauce to have in your kitchen that goes well with anything on the grill. “Because everything is better with bacon”!
This is a great BBQ sauce. It also works great as a dipping sauce. It can be served either hot or cold.
The building blocks of most BBQ sauces are ketchup, apple cider vinegar and dark brown sugar. These together are good, but it’s easy to make them into something extra special.
Bacon Bourbon BBQ Sauce
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Ingredients: Bacon Bourbon BBQ Sauce
- ¼ pound pepper bacon
- 1 ½ cup ketchup
- ½ cup apple cider vinegar
- ½ cup packed dark brown sugar
- ½ cup minced sweet onion
- ¼ cup A-1 sauce
- ¼ cup bourbon, or to taste
- 2 Tbsp. dark molasses
- 2 Tbsp minced garlic (we used our smoked garlic)
- 2 Tbsp. Chili powder, we used chipotle chili powder
- 1 Tbsp coarse ground black pepper
- 1 ½ tsp. smoked paprika
- ½ tsp hot mustard powder
Cooking Directions: Bacon Bourbon BBQ Sauce
I like to cut the bacon into about 2-inch pieces for cooking in a saucepan. I think it makes for easier handling with recipes like this. We use ends and pieces a lot in recipes where you don’t need a whole strip.
Cook the bacon to taste and add the smoked garlic and diced onion. Cook until onion is soft.
Let cool a bit and put it into a blender or food processor for a smoother sauce. If you want a chunky sauce skip this step. If you want a chunky stile sauce just dice the bacon and onions to the size you want.
Mix all the ingredients in a saucepan and simmer for 20 minutes blending everything together and the sauce thickens.
Store in the refrigerator or freezer until needed.
Note: If the bacon and onions are too hot when you blend it, it will blow the top off and you will have “Hot” BBQ sauce everywhere. Don’t ask how I know this…

Almost any of our recipes can be done on any kind of good BBQ.
The important thing to keep in mind is TIME & TEMPERATURE. You can even do some of them in the oven or crock pot, but, then you lose all the flavors you get from cooking outdoors. But sometimes it does rain.
Remember that a recipe is simply an outline; it is not written in stone. Don’t be afraid to make changes to suit your taste. Take it and run with it….
