London Broil with a Homemade Jack Daniel’s Bourbon Sauce, we were in the mood for a hearty beef dinner for date night. Our favorite butcher, Jim, cut us a 2” London broil. A perfect cut for our Char-Griller Akorn Kamado. Patti wanted to make a homemade barbeque sauce as a perfect complement, so she grabbed Jack! He helped her make a hearty and delicious homemade bourbon barbeque sauce.
Patti and I have set one night a week just for us. It’s our date night. We usually put something special on our Green Mountain Wood Pellet Grill/Smoker but sometimes we cook inside. We always eat outside on our patio where it is very comfortable with a rainforest theme. Wood Pellet Patio Heater, little lights, candles, lanterns and surround sound. We enjoy a little wine, or strawberry margaritas using frozen strawberries for ice, good food, music and sometimes a dance or two…

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes @ 400 degrees
Grill: Akorn Kamado
Charcoal: Stump Chunks Sugar Maple Lump Charcoal
Pellets: Green Mountain’s Texas Blend BBQ Pellet
Note: I sprinkle wood pellets over the coals or in a Wedgie for added smoke to our Acorn Kamado grill.
Ingredients: London Broil with Homemade Jack Daniel’s Bourbon Sauce
- 1- 3 ½ lb. London broil
- “Swimmin’ in Smoke” Cattle Call Seasoning Rub
Ingredients: Homemade Jack Daniel’s Bourbon Sauce
- 2 cups Jack Daniel’s Bourbon
- 1 bottle Country Bob’s All Purpose Sauce, we used the Apple Chipotle
- ¾ cup apple cider vinegar
- ¾ cup ketchup
- 1 6oz. can tomato paste
- ½ cup fresh garlic, minced
- 1 Tablespoon Swimmin’ in Smoke Cattle Call Seasoning Rub

Directions: London Broil with Homemade Jack Daniel’s Bourbon Sauce
Rub meat generously on both sides with seasoning. Let meat come to room temperature, then place it directly onto your Akorn Kamado grill. This was a 2 inch London broil and I grilled it for 5 minutes per side with a quarter turn at 2 ½ minutes. I pulled it at 125 degrees (54c), I would have preferred to pull it at 120 degrees (48c) as the meat will continue cooking for another 5 to 10 degrees after you pull it off the grill. I was surprised as to how quick this went. But, we like it really rare. I use a Maverick ProTemp Instant Read Thermometer for checking meat temps.
Sauce
In medium saucepot whisk all ingredients over medium heat. Simmer for 15 minutes. Refrigerate at least 4 hours or overnight to blend flavors.

About our Recipes
We do our recipes on our patio where we have a lineup of grills, including Green Mountain, Uuni Wood Fired Pizza Oven, Sawtooth, Louisiana, Royall, Memphis, Traeger pellet grills, Char Griller side box smoker, Saber, Charmglow, Char-Broil, The Big Easy, Lodge Sportsman’s, Brinkman and Weber. I call it our “Wall of Grill”. Our grilling styles are healthy and low fat and will fit pelletheads, gas, natural wood and even charcoal purists. Almost any of our recipes can be done on any kind of good BBQ.
The important thing to keep in mind is TIME & TEMPERATURE. You can do our recipes on any grill, even some of them in the oven or crock pot, but, then you lose all the flavors you get from cooking outdoors. But sometimes it does rain.
Remember that a recipe is simply an outline; it is not written in stone. Don’t be afraid to make changes to suit your taste. Take it and run with it….
