P B & J Burger, akorn kamado, wood pellet grill, BBQ, smoke, recipeP B & J Burger

P.B. & J. Burger… Think about a thick, juicy burger with a square of bacon, smothered with a peanut jalapeno sauce, then topped with cheese. Oh dang, those are some very nice thoughts we’ve been having all day.

We love our Char-Griller’d burgers here and are always trying new flavor combinations. The one folks complain about the most until they try them are when we use peanut butter. Think about a Thai peanut sauce, always good stuff, melting into everything. It’s so rich, creamy and crunchy all at the same time. When we were cooking at the brewery these were our best selling burgers.

A Akorn Kamado Recipe

Directions: P B & J Burger

Make your bacon squares; you can do these ahead of time. Just do a basket weave with your bacon slices and pre cook them. Make your peanut jalapeno sauce by mixing the jalapenos and peanut butter together and set aside until ready. Season your burgers and head for the Kamado Grill. Put the patties onto a 400 degree fire for about 3 minutes, and then flip them. Add your bacon square and peanut jalapeno sauce. After 2 minutes add the cheese and let everything melt and blend until the cheese is melted.

When the meat reaches an internal temp around 160 (72c) pull it off, cover it and let it rest for 10 minutes before serving. This will be medium. Keep in mind that the meat will continue cooking for another 10 degrees after you pull it off the grill. U.S.D.A. safe for all ground meat is 165 degrees (74c). I use a Maverick ProTemp Instant Read Thermometer for checking meat temps.

About our Recipes

We do our recipes on our patio where we have a lineup of grills, including Louisiana, Green Mountain, Royall, Memphis, Traeger wood pellet grills, Char-Griller, Saber, Charmglow, Char-Broil, The Big Easy, Pacific Living Outdoor Oven, Lodge Sportsman’s, Brinkman and Weber. I call it our “Wall of Grill”. Our grilling styles are healthy and low fat and will fit pelletheads, gas, natural wood and even charcoal purists. Almost any of our recipes can be done on any kind of good BBQ.

The important thing to keep in mind is TIME & TEMPERATURE. You can even do some of them in the oven or crock pot, but, then you lose all the flavors you get from cooking outdoors. But sometimes it does rain.

Remember that a recipe is simply an outline; it is not written in stone. Don’t be afraid to make changes to suit your taste. Take it and run with it….
